Spiritual Thoughts Week March 2, 2009
Posted: under Weekly Spiritual Thoughts.
Dear Spiritual Companions,
Why is it so hard to receive something for free? What is it about not having to pay for something or give something in return that causes us to find this part of life unacceptable? I believe it is one of the mysteries of the human adventure.
Life is free. None of us paid anything to be set free from the womb. We were welcomed into the world through no doing on our part. It happened and here we are. But, and this is one of those big BUTS, we have been trying to repay the Universe ever since. We attempt to pay our way with all of our doing. God forbid we get caught relaxing. Maybe it is my generation of Baby Boomers that created such thoughts, although I don’t think so. I think this doing thing has been around for a long time.
Let’s jump off the cliff together. Imagine a day without doing. What would that be like? Why do we have such a hard time doing no thing. Does this mean we are not carrying our weight, whatever that means. Like being born we are not responsible for the world being here. It was here long before we came and it will be here long after we are gone. Bubble burst – Whoever made all of this doesn’t depend on us. Hey maybe we are not as important as we thought we are.
We are talking about dependence, vulnerability, weakness and living out of control. Those are the things inside of us that we hide in hidden closets. We don’t want them to come out because then our life falls a part. Finally! The truth is we are dependent, vulnerable, weak and out of control. All of our doing does not change this fact. We were made for relationship. It doesn’t matter whether we are talking about who made us, who we live with or people half way across this planet. We are all in this together. Our doing destroys relationhip when it is done to hide another moment of not being perfect. Keeps getting worse doesn’t it.
Whoever made us can’t love us if we aren’t perfect right? Who comes up with thoughts like these? Unfortunately often those who claim to be closest to God, by whatever Name You call It. Perfection just perpetuates the lie found in endless doing. Knowing we are already perfect opens the door to just being.
The world has been turned upside down. I rather like the view from down here or is it up here? I never can remember which is which!
Peace
Gary
